| Instructional Practices Each module in the Professional Development Alternatives for Exceptional
Student Educators Program has been developed to provide the user
with the most current information available. The activities and
assignments have been designed with the adult learner in mind and
are based on the following Florida's Exceptional Student Education
Competencies, established July, 2002
Knowledge of instructional practices in exceptional student education skills
- Analyze assessment information to identify a student's environmental
needs and instructional levels, to select appropriate specialized
techniques and learning strategies, and to determine IEP content.
- Select instructional practices that reflect individual learning
needs and incorporate a wide range of learning strategies and
specialized materials to create an appropriate instructional environment
for students with disabilities.
- Identify instructional strategies for acquisition, generalization,
and maintenance of skills across real-life situations at school,
at home, and in the community.
- Select relevant general education and special skills curricula
appropriate for a given student's age, instructional needs, and
functional performance across settings.
- Identify methods of accommodating and modifying assessment,
instruction, and materials to meet individual student needs.
- Identify effective methods of communication, consultation,
and collaboration with students, families, parents, guardians,
administrators, general education teachers, paraprofessionals,
and other professionals as equal members of education teams.
- Analyze educational activities to assist in the determination
and development of accommodations and modifications that allow
students across disabilities to participate in a meaningful way.
